Innovation: Rapid ED Facility Build for COVID-19

by Keith Joe8 months agono comment
Spacecube 0

Australia’s first COVID-19 RESUS Medical Facility at Monash Health was built within 3 weeks, with the modular infrastructure built and installed on site by SPACECUBE within a day. The facility was built using 25 cubes, spanning 360sqm over two-levels; housing six negative pressure resuscitation beds, a nurse’s station, medication room, and utilities. SPACECUBE also contributed towards the value of the project by incorporating amenities and a staff break room to support the Covid healthcare team.

Within one week of being briefed, the SPACECUBE team had finalised the design, received approvals, and begun installation of the Resus Unit by reusing their versatile infrastructure from the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix and Melbourne Cup Carnival. SPACECUBE’s modular flat-packable design and speedy deployment means Monash Health now has a future-proof solution ready to install for similar outbreaks.

Congratulations to Monash Health, SPACECUBE, and the Victorian Government for such an amazing collaborative effort.

ABOUT

It’s hard to define exemplar or World Class Emergency Medicine because aspects exist in many departments, but are not all present in one. The Best of Emergency Medicine brings together the best of patent care, design, and technology. It draws from real world emergency medicine examples put forward by the people who live and breathe them; the people who really know what works and what doesn’t. In sharing that experience, the Emergency Medicine community as a whole can lift the standards of care.
